Scientific Research Context
What the published literature on Bronchogen examines. These are findings about the compound in the studies cited, not claims about the supplied material.
Proliferation and apoptosis markers
In cultured human embryonic bronchial epithelial cells, Bronchogen was reported to raise Ki67 and Mcl-1 and lower p53. At passage 14 the Ki67-positive area rose from 4.07% in control to 13.92% with the peptide, while the control tetrapeptide Lys-Glu-Asp-Trp did not change Ki67. [in vitro, human cells]
Lung-lineage gene expression
Expression of NKX2-1, SCGB1A1, SCGB3A2, FOXA1/2, MUC4, MUC5AC and SFTPA1 was reported to change, depending on culture age; CXCL12 and Hoxa3 expression rose more in aged cultures. [in vitro]
DNA interaction
Bronchogen raised the thermal stability of DNA by 3.1 °C and was reported to bind CNG-containing oligonucleotides, with a preference for CTG, unlike Epitalon, Pinealon and Testagen, which preferred CAG. [in vitro, cell-free]
Rat bronchial tissue
In a rat model of nitrogen-dioxide-induced bronchial epithelial remodelling, a month of administration was reported to reverse remodelling features, raise secretory IgA and normalise lavage-cell counts and cytokines. [animal, rat]
Scientific Overview
In short: Bronchogen (Ala-Glu-Asp-Leu, "AEDL") is a four-residue synthetic peptide from the Khavinson bioregulator family, studied for gene expression and proliferation markers in bronchial epithelial cell cultures.
Key research facts
Synthetic Ala-Glu-Asp-Leu (AEDL) tetrapeptide from the Khavinson short-peptide lineage
Studied in cultured human bronchial epithelial cells for proliferation and apoptosis markers
Examined for lung-lineage gene expression (NKX2-1, secretoglobins, mucins, surfactant protein A1) in vitro
DNA-binding profile characterised in cell-free melting and fluorescence assays
Compared with Epitalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly), which differs only at the last residue
These points summarise lab themes, not human outcomes.
Bronchogen is built from the same Ala-Glu-Asp stem as Cartalax and Epitalon. Where Epitalon ends in glycine, Bronchogen ends in leucine. The programme matches each short peptide to a tissue, and Bronchogen is the respiratory one: the patent and the experimental papers pair it with bronchial epithelium.
The strongest data are in vitro. In cultured human embryonic bronchial epithelial cells (the FLECH line), Bronchogen was reported to raise the proliferation marker Ki67 and the anti-apoptotic protein Mcl-1 and to lower p53, with the largest Ki67 change in cells at late passage. Expression of lung-lineage genes also changed, and the peptide raised the melting temperature of DNA by 3.1 °C in a cell-free assay. A rat study of nitrogen-dioxide-induced bronchial remodelling reports epithelial and immune-marker changes after a month of administration.
It is supplied here as a lyophilised research powder for in-vitro and preclinical use. No analytical report for the supplied material has been published yet, so this page quotes no purity figure.
Research class: Synthetic short-peptide bioregulator (Khavinson family)
Sequence: Ala-Glu-Asp-Leu (AEDL)
Research focus: Bronchial epithelial cell cultures and rat bronchial tissue
Evidence base: Cell-culture, cell-free and rat studies from one research network; no human data
Bronchogen is a synthetic tetrapeptide with the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Leu (AEDL), developed by Vladimir Khavinson and colleagues at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. It is the respiratory-tissue member of the short-peptide bioregulator family and the best studied in cell culture: work in cultured human bronchial epithelial cells reports changes in proliferation and apoptosis markers and in lung-lineage gene expression, with the effect larger in late-passage cultures. Cell-free studies examine how it binds DNA. It is supplied as lyophilised powder strictly for in-vitro and preclinical research. Not for human or veterinary use.
At a glance
Compound identity Synthetic short-peptide bioregulator (Khavinson family)
Primary research focus Bronchial epithelial cell cultures and rat bronchial tissue
Mechanism and receptors Bronchogen is studied as a tissue-matched transcriptional modulator: the proposed model is that it enters bronchial epithelial cell nuclei and binds DNA at CNG-type sequences. The data are in vitro and in silico, so the model remains a hypothesis.
Experimental models Bronchial epithelial structure, secretory IgA, lavage-cell counts and cytokines in a rat nitrogen-dioxide model (two reports); Growth of lung explants from young and old rats in organotypic culture.
Molecular characteristics Molecular weight 446.46 Da; sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Leu.
Evidence maturity Tier 3: Limited / anecdotal — Bronchogen has a small preclinical record from one research network: cultured bronchial epithelial cells, cell-free DNA studies and rat models. There are no human data and no independent replication, and one paper's "geroprotective" wording is the authors' hypothesis. It is supplied as unapproved laboratory material.
Research limitations Most published findings come from cell and animal models; they cannot be treated as evidence of human efficacy or safety.
Proposed Mechanism
Bronchogen is studied as a tissue-matched transcriptional modulator: the proposed model is that it enters bronchial epithelial cell nuclei and binds DNA at CNG-type sequences. The data are in vitro and in silico, so the model remains a hypothesis.

Deeper dive for scientific readers
The Khavinson hypothesis is that ultrashort peptides act as endogenous gene regulators, matched to tissue. For Bronchogen the evidence is a set of cell-culture readouts on a single embryonic bronchial epithelial line, DNA melting and fluorescence experiments, spectroscopy interpreted by the authors as major-groove binding at guanine N7, and a rat inhalation-injury study. The authors describe the "geroprotective" reading of the culture data as a hypothesis for further study, not a measured outcome. No independent laboratory has reproduced the findings and no human study was found.

About Bronchogen (AEDL): Short-Peptide Bioregulator Research Guide
Bronchogen is the respiratory-tissue peptide of the Khavinson programme. The patent that covers it (US 7,625,870 B2) describes classical peptide synthesis of Ala-Glu-Asp-Leu, and the first journal use of the peptide in organotypic rat tissue cultures dates to 2006. A 2014 study in the journal Lung gave the clearest account of what it does to human bronchial epithelial cells in culture.
One detail deserves a plain statement. Most sources, including the patent and the compound record in PubChem, write the sequence as Ala-Glu-Asp-Leu. A few papers from the same group print the order as Ala-Asp-Glu-Leu. Both orders have the same composition and the same formula and mass, and this page follows the patent and PubChem.
New-U Research Compounds supplies Bronchogen as a lyophilised research powder in sealed 10-vial packs of 20 mg vials. No analytical report for the supplied material has been published yet, and this page makes no purity or certificate claim. It is for in-vitro and preclinical research only and nothing here is medical advice.
